Why Did Facebook Acquire FriendFeed?

facefriendThere may be many reasons why Facebook wanted to acquire FriendFeed but the FriendFeed team was likely one of the most attractive parts of the deal.

Facebook may have a good team (although Mark Zuckerberg’s leadership of the company is often criticized) but FriendFeed has a great team. FriendFeed was founded by Bret Taylor, Jim Norris, Paul Buchheit and Sanjeev Singh –all former employees of Google. This team helped design products like Google Maps and Gmail. Recent Facebook features have been copied inspired by FriendFeed’s features. Now Facebook has this brilliant team working for them.

Why else would Facebook want this team? Because the Wave is coming –Google Wave that is. And who better to have on the Facebook team than the ex-Googlers to go head-to-head with Google Wave. Good move Facebook!

Lesson: In business, it is the team you work with that makes –or breaks –you. The best businesses are built by the best teams. When you have an opportunity to work with great people, jump on it.
