Ring in the New Year with a Realistic Micro Resolution

Can you believe we’re entering the last year of this decade?! It doesn’t feel like long ago when everyone was anticipating the new millennium and worrying about potential Y2K problems. The start of a new year is a time of reflection, excitement, and, of course, new year’s resolutions…

Today I read an article in the January issue of Glamour magazine by Kate Torgovnick called Change Your Life in 31 Days, encouraging readers to “Skip the soul-crushing, captial-R resolutions this year.” Instead, the article suggests that we change one small thing every day for a month. One woman made a commitment to do 10 push-ups every day rather than the typical “lose ten pounds” resolution that so many women make. Another woman gave up Starbucks for a month which could replace the popular “save more money” and “get out of debt” resolutions. The woman saved $465 by giving up Starbucks for a month! Breaking macro resolutions into micro resolutions is a great way for all of us to make realistic changes in our lives.

What is your micro resolution for the new year?

I wish everyone a Happy New Year! Cheers to health, wealth, happiness, and taking on the world in 2009!

I love the idea of a micro resolution. For January, my micro resolutions are
    1. Hit the gym once a week.
    2. Play with my eldest daughter out to play for thirty minutes a day.

Micro resolutions are a great idea. My micro resolutions for January are to find a source of inspiration and spend 5 minutes a day looking at it.

Do 15 minutes of yoga every day.

Find two photographers and encourage them.

That’s exactly what I did this year. I have a very simple resolution…to pick up things that I drop or knock over immediately after I do it and not let them lie around for a while before getting to them. And not every time, just more often.

I started last week and I’m already doing it a lot more often, not having to do it every time makes me feel more like doing it because there’s less pressure.

And I like things to be clean, I’m just lazy about keeping them straight.

I love these micro resolutions ladies! They are all so realistic.

I’m going to add ‘do dishes right after eating and hang clothes up so they aren’t on the floor’ to my list. Do you ever look around your home right after you’ve cleaned and think “Now as long as I put things away when I’m done using them and clean up the kitchen after every meal it will stay this way forever?” Well, that’s what I do and it seems like such a realistic goal at the time but a week later I look around and think “how did this happen” hahaha

    I think mine would be:
1.Not buying any more make-up unless they are essentials i.e. foundation, moisturizer, etc.
    2. Drink more water and less diet soda

Who is on the cover of that Glamour magazine?

Britney Spears is on the Glamour cover! She looks great, very natural.
